The New York Cosmos thrashed Cuba 4-1 yesterday in a symbolic friendly match under the rain in Havana.
The rain tarnished a little the game marking the first visit by an American professional soccer  team to Cuba since 1978 and the first match between sides of two countries which since December last year are talking to resume relations after more than half a century of ideological confrontation.
The US national team had faced its Cuban counterpart in 2008, in Havana, for the 2010 World Cup qualifying. Today, seven years later, the anthem of the neighboring country was heard again at Pedro Marrero stadium in honor of the Cosmos led by Spanish striker Raul Gonzalez.
The NY Cosmos was already ahead after 8 minutes through striker Lucky Mkosana and thanks to a pass from Raul, who also assisted Sebastian Guenzatti at 33rd minute for him to score the second goal for the visitors who added two more goals scored by Chirishian Hagop (35') and the afforementioned Mkosana (41') before the end of the first half.
Cosmos made several changes in the second half and Cuba took advantage of it by scoring on 50th minute through Andy Baquero.
"There has been a phenomenal atmosphere, the audience supported us wherever we went," Mkosana said on television.
