In the end, Leinier Dominguez finished fourth at the Grand Prix of Khanty-Mansiysk, which included twelve chess players, and the Cuban managed to finish half point behind the leaders.
Without chances of winning the tournament due to the blow received on the eve by Georgian Jobava, Dominguez came out today in search of a draw without uneasiness and he got it in just 34 moves of a Sicilian Defense against Russian Grischuk, who is member of the universal Top Ten.
It was a good performance, even hopeful, because it proves that the disaster of last October in Baku meant just a bad time, and not, as some experts said- the beginning of the decline of the best Cuban chess player since Capablanca. He earned nine points to his ELO coefficient (which already reaches 2746 units ), and finished eleventh among the 16 global competitors of the circuit and made clear that, beyond his frequent troubles of time or limited openings repertoire, he is a man to be taken into account in the major competitions.
