Cuban Leinier Dominguez beat Russian Peter Svidler today and now appears second with 4.5 points in the Khanty-Mainsiysk Chess Grand Prix, where the Italian Fabiano Caruana remains on top of the standings after seven rounds.
Leinier with white pieces chose the Spanish opening and exploited the mobility of his two bishops to act on his opponent's weaknesses.
It was Leinier’s third win against Svidler in classical matches and so far he has won 16 points, and his live Elo reaches 2750 units and ranks 14th in the world ranking.
