After the statements of Elian Gonzalez to the American press, where he says he would like to visit the United States, one of the relatives who fought to keep him in Miami says the Cuban-American community would welcome him.
"The family has nothing to do with politics," notes Gonzalez but adds that "never again" he has been able to communicate with Elian and the rest of his relatives on the island. "We used to call and they said 'he is not here' and that was because the government had monitored calls. All we knew about him is what we see on television and by friends who have been in Cuba."
Elian Gonzalez, 21, told ABC he bore no resentment toward his family in Miami and wants the opportunity to give his "love" to the American people.
