International Port Corp. from Miami and America Cruise Ferries from Puerto Rico are among the six companies that have obtained licenses by the Departments of Treasury and Commerce, as published the web site of the Sun-Sentinel newspaper.
Company executives are planning rates between $ 300.00 and $ 400.00 per passenger, prices that compete with those that currently have direct flights to Cuba, in order to attract Florida passengers, considering the amount of electrical effects, food and supplies currently sent to the island.
If Cuban government gives the nod, Americans could travel on the ferries taking specific visas or within 12 categories that no longer need licenses.
Last Tuesday, four companies received licenses to provide ferry trips to Cuba: Havana Ferry Partners, from Fort Lauderdale; Baja Ferries, from Miami; United Caribbean Lines, from Orlando; and Airline Brokers Co., from Miami.
