The Cuban shortstop Adeiny Hechavarría means a lot to the Miami Marlins "regarding the defense is concerned," said team manager Mike Redmond.
Redmond believes that Hechavarría, who can also play third base, "has ability to hit (...) and has speed, which represents another aspect of his game that we could not take advantage, partly because bats in the bottom of the order" .
According to Mike Frisaro, a reporter for MLB.com, Hechavarría would become a threat to the opposing team if placed in the top of the lineup.
In 2014, Hechavarría stole seven bases, below the 11 achieved in 2013. Last year he hit .276 with 148 hits in 536 plate appearances; 20 of his hits were doubles, 10 triples and one home run. It also launched 34 runs and struck out 86 times.
The Santiago has played three seasons in the majors. Since 2012 batting .251 with 91 RBIs and 303 hits online races.
