The pope Francisco appointed Giorgio Lingua who until now was nuncio to Iraq and Jordan, as new apostolic "ambassador" in Cuba, reported the Vatican press office.

Lingua has been a member of the Vatican diplomatic corps since 1992 and has worked as a diplomat in Ivory Coast, the United States and Serbia, in addition to the Secretariat of State in the Section for Relations with States.

In 2010 he was appointed by Pope nuncio to Iraq and Jordan.

Replaced in this position Bruno Musaró who was appointed the new apostolic nuncio to Egypt and delegate to the Organization of the League of Arab States.
