The High Representative of the European Union, Federica Mogherini; will travel to Havana on March 23 and 24, which will be the first visit by an EU diplomat with such a high level to the island. The trip occurs "at a crucial negotiations time between the EU and Cuba" announced today the European External Action Service in a statement.
"The EU has been closely following events in Cuba and its relations with key international players, creating a new dynamic in the region and in Cuba itself, and provides opportunities for all," said block text, quoted by the press.
Mogherini will meet Bruno Rodriguez, Cuban Foreign Minister, among other representatives of the Cuban government, and with Cardinal Jaime Ortega, the highest Catholic authority. The EU and Cuba opened negotiations for their first bilateral agreement in April 2014.
The last March 4th and 5th happened in Havana the third round of negotiations, focusing for now on issues of bilateral cooperation and the decision of Cuba and the US to restore diplomatic relations.
