The controversy surrounding Ladies in White climbed a new step on Monday when 16 of its members in exile called for the resignation of the leader of the organization, Bertha Soler, and demanded elections to choose a new one.

The statement, signed by wives of former political prisoners and founding the group, uncheck the act against activist Alejandrina Garcia de la Riva, which occurred on December 16 at the headquarters of the Ladies in White in Havana, considering it a " abominable act of repudiation "typical of communist and fascist, not fighters for democracy and human rights.

It also supports García de la Riva for "his courageous path in the struggle for the liberation of all members of the Group of 75" and being "a tireless fighter for human rights of the people of Cuba"

García de la Riva is the wife of former political prisoner Diosdado González Marrero, a member of the Group of 75 and released in 2010. The couple resides in Perico, Matanzas province.
