Cuban team won the final match against Mexico in the Caribbean Series. After 55 years, a team of the island, Vegueros of Pinar del Río, imposed in the tournament.

It was the first time in the event's history a team wins despite having lost three games. The Cubans started badly, falling just before Mexico and Venezuela (who finally bowed in the semifinals and finals of the tournament), but improved throughout the tournament.

The last game against the Mexicans was 3-2 in favor of the Cubans. In the game hits from Luis La O, William Saavedra, Alfredo Despaigne, Frederich Cepeda (tournament's most valuable player) and Yulieski Gourriel homer highlighted. Moreover pitchers Livan Moinelo Yosvani Torres and controlled the batazos of Tomateros of Culiacan.

The last time a Cuban team won the Caribbean Series in 1960, with the Elephants of Cienfuegos. From this year the government of the island banned professional sport and took the country from international competition.

Until this edition of 2015, Mexico had won the last two occasions and in three of the last four tournaments, through the Yaquis de Ciudad Obregon and Orange sellers of Hermosillo.

In the semifinal of this year, Cuba defeated Venezuela 8-4 undefeated until that game (4-0). Thus, it was the first time in the history of the series that a team with only one defeat was out.
