Cuban volleyball players have great potential to play from January in foreign professional leagues, mainly from Japan, Indonesia and Turkey, revealed on Sunday the president of the Cuban Federation, Ariel Sainz.

The federation said the governing body is "in touch with clubs interested in signing with Cuban players," adding that "now only have to evaluate the process for an organized manner can yield the desired results."

He ruled for the moment signings in the strongest leagues in Italy and Russia, because the Cuban teams are "in transition" and its players lack development.

In September 2013, the Government adopted a new payment policy in sport and authorized the signing of players by some foreign clubs, although to date only a handful of baseball has signed contracts in Mexico and Japan.

In volleyball, more than four dozen players have left the national team in full powers in the last fifteen years, or have left the island legally or illegally.

Some like Osmany Juantorena, Robertlandy Simon, Osvaldo Hernandez Calderon and Taismaris Agüero Rosir have triumphed in the best leagues in the world.
