Alfredo Despaigne renewed his contract with Chiba Lotte Mariners, signing a two-year deal in the Japanese Pacific League. This is the second time that the player participates in the Asian league as part of the new sports law in Cuba.

Japanese media said the deal is $ 4.2 million, the most lucrative contract signed by a Cuban who continues living in the country. Lotte contracted for the first time Despaigne in July as part of the new Cuban laws that allow athletes to play in professional leagues in other countries.

Despaigne, 28, batted .311 with 12 homers and 33 RBIs in 45 games in Japanese baseball, where he arrived after leaving Campeche Pirates of the Mexican league for falsifying documents.

Despaigne hit 220 home runs in the National Series with the team of Granma, with which he set a record by hitting 36 home runs in the 2012 season also shined with the national team in the World Baseball Classic last year
