A group of 18 French tourists, part of the 41 injured on Monday, was discharged on Tuesday at the Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Hospital, Cienfuegos, but at least eight remain in serious consitions.

A local television report, Perlavisión, which showed images of the wounded, said three remain hospitalized in intensive care and five in Surgical Intensive Care.

Dr. Moses Santos, deputy director of the hospital, said Tuesday night was planned evacuation of five injured in an ambulance plane to the island of Martinique, a French overseas department. From there they would be transferred to France. A French embassy official quoted by AFP said that among them were three "seriously injured".

Santos told that most patients suffer friction burns and orthopedic injuries. Two of them had upper limb amputees at the time of the accident. Doctors now monitor the possible occurrence of abdominal trauma in some patients.

Besides French, were injured in the accident the vehicle driver and the tour guide, both Cubans. No deaths were reported according to hospital and official sources.
