The Cruise Semester at Sea, a program of international studies sponsored by the University of Virginia, in the US, will arrive in Havana on November 29. This is the twelfth time the academic ship visits the island.

The 709 members of the ship, between teachers and students from 248 universities from every state and Puerto Rico, will exchange with students and professors at the University of Havana.

Visitors will be in Cuba until December 3, as part of a voyage of 106 days at sea, which began in August, which includes visits to 18 cities in 16 countries. During their stay on the island, the last leg of the journey, will participate in academic, cultural, recreational and sporting events.

This academic program, administered by the Institute of Studies on Board, was established in 1964. It was in 1999 that began the trip to Cuba, but between 2004 and 2013 did not come because of restrictions on the Bush administration.

In June 2013, the Obama administration granted permission again, and in December the ship returned to visit Cuban port.
