The Cuban swimmer Hanser Garcia, known as "Pollo", won the 100 meter freestyle competition taking home the gold medal with a time of 49.00 seconds. The difficulties encountered in his training were not enough to diminish his performance.

The Cuban managed to break the previous primacy of Venezuelan Albert Subirats (49.55) and fix in 49 seconds flat. Behind him touched the pool Cristian Quintero (49.66) and Subirats (50.52) himself.

Unlike as almost always happens, Hanser dominated the first 50 meters and after the turn increased his speed, clearly anchored to gold medal and world record holder. With such advancement, his golden expectations for the 50 meters freestyle category grow.

It was 76 years that no Cuban could be imposed in this test, since Panama 1938 games with the victory of Francisco Escobar.
