The National Council of the Arts awarded its 2014 National Award to artist Lázaro Saavedra, who has developed a versatile work regarding the employment of means of expression which conceptualism and management of humor and irony characterized.
 
His creations have been recognized inside and outside Cuba and he has done an outstanding job in training generations of Cuban artists. Saavedra works are part of the collections of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, of Cuba; Galleries Ludwig Forum, Germany and Daros, Switzerland.

The jury chose Saavedra was chaired by Eduardo Ponjuán National Arts Award 2013, and composed of the also national awards of Visual Arts Osneldo Garcia, Pedro Pablo Oliva, René de la Nuez, Jose Villa, Nelson Dominguez, Ernesto Fernández Nogueras and Ever Fonseca; and the artists Iván Capote, Abel Barreto and Abel Barroso; Manuel López Oliva, Critical Award for the Work of Life and art critics María Angels Pereira, David Matthew and Axel Li.

Were nominated for the award by different institutions José Antonio Choy, Vent Lesbia Dumois, Salvador Corratgé, Zaida del Rio, Roberto Salas, Juan Moreira, Pedro de Oráa, José Manuel Fors, Alberto Lescay, Alexis Leyva Machado (Kcho), Eduardo Roca (Choco), Ma¬nuel Valdés Hernández, Rafael Zarza and Rocio Garcia.
