During the International Fair of Havana Cuba and Portugal strengthened its economic and commercial relations in a forum where the Portuguese state secretaries of Food, Tourism and Foreign Affairs were present and also Paulo Portas, Deputy Prime Minister of the participating European country.

With the opening of the Special Development Zone Mariel (ZEDM) and the adoption of a new legal framework, Cuba encourages the participation of foreign investors in key sectors such opportunity that "Europe must not turn back, but the hand" Portas said.

The development of tourism as well as commercial and cultural exchanges were among the topics discussed at the forum. Regarding foreign investment Orlando Hernandez Guillen, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba, asked the delegation to study the main lines of investment which promotes the island, particularly those established for the ZEDM.

To end the meeting, the Cuban company Caribex and the Portuguese Antonio Conde signed a new agreement to the sale of fish fillets.
