Jorge Luis Rodríguez, specialist in international issues of the Cuban newspaper Juventud Rebelde and frequent panelist on Mesa Redonda journalist, sought political asylum in the UK, a country where he was attending a journalism course since last May.

Rodriguez, 31, took his case to the Border Agency, an agency of the Home Office, where refugee claims are processed politically motivated.

Like him many Cubans journalists have decided to go write to other lands, such is the case of Aida Calviac and Mairelys Cuevas, editors of Granma newspaper and Luis Lopez Viera also journalist from Juventud Rebelde.

"My goal is to continue practicing journalism and do the work that the government does not allow in Cuba," said Rodriguez, who declined to elaborate on the details of his decision.
