Federica Mogherini, candidate for the post of chief diplomat of the European Union (EU) expressed support found in favor of economic reforms that are taking place in Cuba. She also spoke about hes intentions to start a dialogue on human rights with government officials.

Mogherini, proposed to replace Catherine Ashton, was questioned on the negotiation of an agreement on political dialogue and cooperation with Havana as part of the assessment by the European Parliament (EP) to know if she is the right person for the work.

The Italian candidate said it is necessary to support these small economic reforms that are taking place by the Cuban authorities, assured to do everything possible to encourage these reforms and carried out with greater determination.

"I'm ready to begin a constructive dialogue on human rights with the Cuban authorities," said Mogherini, and hoped that this exchange can also be done through the Special Representative for Human Rights of the EU.

The EU adopted on February 10, the mandate to open negotiations in the first bilateral agreement with Cuba, after finding "changes" in areas of the economy and social structure of the island, and since then has held two rounds of talks .
