Given the outbreak of Ebola in Africa, the Cuban government appointed a group of health workers who go to work in the affected areas. Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General, thanked Bruno Rodríguez, Cuban Foreign Minister, for their help in difficult times.

The meeting was held in New York after the arrival of Bruno Rodriguez, who attended on behalf of the island to the high-level segment of the General Assembly of the UN.

Cuba sent 165 health professionals to Sierra Leone to fight against that disease, in order to support the efforts of the World Health Organization (WHO) to stop the spread of the outbreak.

UN sources said Ban Ki-moon welcomed the decision in his meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister, in which he also discussed other issues on the international agenda as new challenges for development after 2015.

They also talked about the "economic change" in Cuba, the challenges climate change and the role of Cuba in the peace negotiations between the government of Colombia and the FARC, which are held in the Cuban capital.
