French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius announced today here he will soon carry out a visit to Cuba, being the first of this kind in more than 30 years.

"I will soon go to Cuba, something that is new" the French diplomatic head said during a news conference along with his Brazilian peer Luiz Alberto Figueiredo.

The official did not put forward a precise date for this trip, but diplomatic sources stated that this would possibly be before summertime.

Last week, Fabius met at the Quai d'Orsay with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, with whom he analyzed bilateral issues, relations with Cuba and the European Union, and international agenda.

A release from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued before the meeting stated that this is included in the framework of the relaunch of relations of the EU and the Caribbean country.
