With the satisfaction on their faces the members of the Cuban team who participated in the 8th Under-22 World Trinquete Championship, held in Mercedes, Uruguay, returned home.

Upon arrival at the Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, the duo of Armando Chappi and Yoan Torreblanca, runners up in Paleta Cuero (leather), expressed their joy for their outstanding performance.

It is an achievement that is partly due to the prior year of intense preparation for this event, with training bases in Argentina that helped us a lot by the high level of the hosts in this sport.

Ivan Torres and Enrique Comas, also runners up in the specialty of Xare, said that the competition was very strong, which was evident in the rivalry of every game they played.

The pair reached the final against all odds, after beating Argentine favorites Gil - Etcheverri with score of 2-1 (15-7, 13-15, 10-3) and once there they were beaten by French duo of Bordenave - Sanesbastian despite playing well, given the quality of the opponents, with more experience.

Ramses Ortiz, head of the Basque pelota national team coaching staff, said this world championship involved 170 athletes from 12 nations.

He stated they all are proud of the performance of these athletes, whose results were expected for several years.

None of the pairs started as favorite in this global contest, an aspect that makes most notable these medals.
