The Cuban tourist destination Jardines del Rey will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its opening to the international public, with works to renovate its hotels to maintain or improve its quality standards.

Luis Baez, main expert of the Tourism Ministry to Ciego de Avila, told the news agency Prensa Latina that the renovation works are currently carried out, as well as change of decorations and improvement of the atmosphere in several hotels and out-of-hotel facilities.

Formed by the keys Coco and Guillermo, the enclave is also getting ready to the coming winter season (November-April), when the mall and the party hall Rocarena will be officially opened.

According to Baez, roads, lights and signs of the main roads in both islets are also being improved and billboards are being placed.

Jardines del Rey has welcomed, since it was founded 20 years ago, more than three million tourists from Canada, United Kingdom and Argentina, its main tourist senders, besides other European and South American nations.

With recent opening of the hotel Pestana Cayo Coco, the beach resort has around 6,000 rooms and 17 hotels, the equivalent to 8.6 percent of those in Cuba that are devoted to the tourist industry.

The resort, located in the northern keys of Ciego de Avila, around 491 kilometers from the east of Havana, will turn 20 years old on November 12, because its first hotel, Cayo Coco Colonial, was opened on that date in 1993.
