Cuban Grand Master (GM) Lazaro Bruzon was crowned champion in the Open Chess in Quebec, Canada, said today the website of the event.

Bruzon, with 2.689 points Elo, defeated the final day the Canadian International Master (IM) Leonid Gerzhoy and reached seven units, impossible to achieve for Lithuanian Eduardas Rozentalis, Israeli Elshan Moradianbadi, the nationalized Argentine and Anton Kolvayov and the also Lithuanian Sarunas Sulskis. Of the rest of the Cuban competing, GM Luis Manuel Perez finished in 13th place, the IM Rodney Perez in the 16th, and the GM Walter Arencibia (17), FIDE Master Kevel Oliva 19 and GM Reynaldo Vera (20), respectively.

To Bruzon the event served as preparation for the World Cup Tromso, Norway, where he will compete with their peers and fellows Leinier Dominguez and Isam Ortiz from the next day 11.
