Victor Mesa, manager of the Cuban national baseball team described as very positive the five-game match against a US collegiate team, despite being swept by them.

After losing 5 games in a row, Cuba also lost the fifth, though this time it managed to score three runs, thanks to the only homerun Cubans hit in the tour, when catcher Lazaro Herrera found two runners in base and blasted the ball way over the fence.

Amid fireworks and photos, Mesa explained that the only negative part of the event were the five losses, but they were very helpful, even for the American collegiate players, who acknowledged the presence of the Cubans.

This is a sample of what we always say, since the international level is high and the teams cannot be formed only by performance. This is a team sport and as such it has to work, he said.

The variant of encouragement to some who excel in performance may be another.

This team had several difficulties, - besides the poor offensive-there were related issues also pitching and catching mostly on which we must work to resolve them.

The point is that everyone wins in experience. We saw who can and who is still missing something, he said.

Mesa said it is very good that at the beginning of the preparation for the WBC these things happen, there is still time.

He also stressed that the organizers are keen to keep these preparatory meetings. They want to help Cuba and the U.S. government blockade against Cuba for over 50 years to be over.

With the win on Tuesday, the university team swept the Cubans who fell before with 2-1, 3-2, 1-0, and 3-2, in that order.
