The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Kenny Davis Anthony, arrived in this capital today, on an official visit, in which he will hold talks with Cuban President Raul Castro, national media reported.

The visitor's agenda, to be run until June 1, also includes a tribute to Cuban national hero Jose Marti at the Revolution Square, and a visit to the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, from this capital's scientific resort. According to the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two Caribbean nations established diplomatic relations in 1979, and maintain fraternal and cooperative bilateral ties, mainly in health, construction, and sports.

Commenting on medical services, they started in 2001, and about 139 Cuban collaborators have so far provided health care to the people of Saint Lucia.

The medical presence in that Caribbean country also includes Operation Miracle staff, to treat eye afflictions, through which it has restored sight to thousands of people in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Regarding educational cooperation, it began in 1988, and about 313 students from Saint Lucia have graduated in Cuba since then, 241 of them in education, 60 in health, and 12 in physical education and sports.

Some 77 scholarship holders from that Caribbean nation are currently training in Cuba.
