Cuba's First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel expressed his country's willingness to further strengthen ties of friendship and solidarity with Ecuador, and expand cooperation and integration between the two governments and countries.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Diaz-Canel conveyed "a greeting from Fidel Castro, Raul Castro and all Cubans" when President Rafael Correa begins today a new four-year term.

The Cuban first vice president said he came to accompany President Correa, his government, and the people of Ecuador, on the occasion of the swear-in ceremony and to support the Citizen Revolution on behalf of the Cuban government and people.

He also highlighted the coincidence, within diversity, with Ecuador in all blocks of regional integration, and added that Cuba will make all possible effort to strengthen the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

This organization is the most important forum of integration for being included the 33 countries of the region, and Ecuador will support it much, due to the prestige of the President and the Citizen Revolution, as the transformation process headed by Correa, is known, he said.

Cuba will continue supporting Ecuador in its social and economic programs, said Diaz-Canel, stating that there are many areas in which both countries can share experiences, technologies, and organize joint projects.

The swear-in ceremony today of Correa and his vice president guarantee the continuity of the Citizen Revolution in Ecuador, and it is a contribution for the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), integration, and the example that together we are building, he said.

Diaz Canel, who arrived in Ecuador yesterday, held on his first day in this capital a meeting with Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas, president of the National Assembly, Gabriela Rivadeneira, and solidarity activists with Cuba.
