A bloodied Richar Abril scored a unanimous decision over Sharif Bogere to retain his World Boxing Association lightweight title on Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Cuba's Abril won on all three judges' scorecards (115-111, 116-110, 116-110) as he handed the Ugandan his first loss as a professional.

The 30-year-old Abril improved to 18-3 with one draw and eight knockouts, landing 35 percent of his total punches to just 15 percent landed for Uganda's Bogere.

Bogere had a point deducted in the 12th round for a headbutt, while Abril had a point taken away in the eighth round for holding.

Abril, who suffered a cut above his eye from a headbutt in round six, was making his first appearance in the ring since losing a split decision to unbeaten American Brandon Rios in April.

Bogere dropped to 23-1 with 15 knockouts.

Abril said he wants his next fight to be against WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner.
