Cuba Reaches in 2012 Greater Rice Production in History

Cuba reached in 2012 its greater rice production in history, with figure of 315,000 tons ready for consumption, which helped to reduce imports, the national press reported today.
According to Trabajadores weekly, the result contributed that the producers would have more resources, which arrived on time to the field, although the industrial capacity limited the performance of a campaign that could be better.
In this sense, rains in western Pinar del Rio province, and Sancti Spiritus, in the center of the island, also affected.
Although the balance of the crop was positive, the result has not yet achieved to cover the needs and it is away of the country's productive potentials, the weekly published.
We expects a boost in rice production by 2016, with more than 500,000 tons, as of an improvement in drying and milled technologies, field, and the machinery provided in the largest investment program of the Ministry of Agriculture, the publication added.
