The dynamic drill to take place a week before February 3 general elections in Cuba will test the performance of voting stations and communication systems, said electoral authorities.

The president of the National Electoral Commission Alina Balseiro told Granma newspaper that the test will also include the information system and all logistic aspects, as well as alternative actions in the event of unexpected technical situations.

“Everything will be put to test…and we will conclude the process with an intensive training session, although self-preparation of electoral authorities will continue next week,” said Balseiro.

The official said that electoral commissions are working in the training of their members and the promotion of voting procedures as two main actions prior to the elections.

The training has included all organizational and procedural details from, aspects related to the vote up and the information systems.

This second stage of general elections includes the direct and secret vote for Parliament deputies and delegates to the provincial assemblies of People’s Power.

Also included is the setting up of the National Assembly or Parliament and all 15 provincial assemblies.
The Cuban Council of State called general elections in July, which included the election of 14 thousand 537 councilors late last year, as the first stage of the process.

Part of those councilors will make up 50 percent of candidacies to the National Parliament and provincial assemblies, while the other 50 percent was nominated by civil society organizations, such as the Cuban Women Federation, the Cuban Workers’ Confederation and the University Student Federation, among others.
