Peruvian President Ollanta Humala arrived in Havana, Cuba, Friday afternoon for an official visit aimed at strengthening the historic bilateral relationship and sign agreements on cooperation in education and science.

"We have an official agenda that includes the signing of a series of agreements," he said on his arrival at Jose Marti International Airport.

"We will sign a mutual recognition agreement regarding professional qualifications, enabling a hundred Peruvian students to study here under the Beca 18 scholarship program."

During his stay in Havana, Humala said he will ask about Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's condition. "I will also ask about the health condition of President (Hugo) Chavez, as we all wish him a speedy recovery," he stated.

The Peruvian leader was received by Cuba's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rogelio Sierra. Humala was accompanied by Peru's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Beraun and the Peruvian Ambassador to Cuba, Victor Mayorga.
