The government of Luxemburg announced an official contribution of 175,000 euros to fund relief efforts in the eastern region of Cuba, which was seriously hit by hurricane Sandy last October.

In a message to Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, his Luxembourg counterpart Jean Asselborn expressed his government's sincere condolences and solidarity to the people of the stricken territories.

Sandy -a two-degree hurricane in the Saffir-Simpson scale- swept through Santiago de Cuba, Holguin and Guantanamo provinces in pre-dawn hours of October 25th with winds of more than 175 kph, leaving a trail of massive damage, fundamentally, in the infrastructure - of housing, the agribusiness and the electricity and communications grid, plus 11 dead.
