Cuban prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso will be presented today in Italy with the Prix Rome Jia Ruskaja 2012 as one of this year's winners of its lifetime achievement award, dedicated to people who have contributed to the creation and development of dance teaching methods.

This award, which is granted for the first time, will be given to Alicia for her long lasting career and commitment to education, since the founding of the Alicia Alonso School, current Cuban National Ballet School, an outstanding contribution for its worldwide recognition, said a source of the Cuban National Ballet (BNC).

This prize is granted by the Italy´s Foundation of the National Academy of Dance, and it is supported by the patronage of the President of the Republic of Italy, and also by the Italian Ministries of Culture and Education.

The Cuban National Ballet School will also receive this award but in the category of "Teaching for Ballet" to recognize its original teaching method of classical dance.

The awards ceremony will take place at the National Theatre in Rome, where it will be a gala that will feature students from the "Scuola di Roma dell'Opera" of the Rome´s Opera House Ballet, the Cuban National Ballet School and the company directed by Alicia Alonso.

Dancers from "The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School" of the American Ballet Theatre (U.S) will also perform in that ceremony.

A delegation headed by Alicia Alonso and Ramona de Saa, director of the Cuban National Ballet School, and also by the recent year’s graduates from this entity Estheysis Menendez, Dayesi Torriente, Arianni Martin, Gabriela Mesa, Victor Estevez, Luis Valle, Miguel Anaya and Gian Carlo Perez are already in Italy
