Cuba obtained silver and bronze medals today in the Tokyo Judo Grand Slam, through Dayaris Mestre (48 kg) and London-2012 Olympics silver medalist Yanet Bermoy, at 52 kg.

Mestre was bye in the first two rounds and then beat Japan's Emi Yamagishi and Amelie Rosseneu, before losing the fight for the title to the also local Haruna Asami, number three in the world ranking and world champion at Tokyo-2010 and Paris-2011.

For her part, Bermoy, winner of this competition in 2007 in 48 kg, started her journey in the competition flawlessly, winning Yuko over the Japanese Kiroki Miharu and Ippon against the French Penelope Bonna, however, she faltered in the Nodoka semifinals against the Japanese Tanimoto, who won by Ippon less than two minutes from the end of the match.

Finally, Tanimoto won silver in the 52 kg division, after losing in the final against compatriot Yuki Hashimoto, bronze at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China, in 2011.
