Cuban Grand Master Leinier Dominguez drew against Israeli Boris Gelfand during the third round of the Chess Grand Prix underway in London, his third consecutive draw in this tournament

Dominguez, 2 725 ELO points, played with white pieces and agreed to draw in just 36 moves of a Sveshnikov variation of the Sicilian defense, one of the weapons of choice by Gelfand (2738).

The Israeli GM has spent much time studying that variation, and used it frequently during the contest for the world title last May, recalled the digital site of the event.

After the opening the black pieces were out of danger, and finally took control over the queenside with b5 and b4 pawns movements, explained the specialists who agreed that it was impossible to find imbalances in a different color bishop ending.

Now Dominguez accumulates 1.5 points, half less than Gelfand, who commands the standings tied with Hungarian Peter Leko (2737) and Azeri Shakriyar Mamedyarov (2729).

The event is the first of six that make up the 2012-2013Grand Prix, which will reward the two best overall contestants with tickets to the Candidates to the world title tournament.

This Monday in the fourth round the amtches will be between Kasimdzhanov-Leinier, Giri against Ivanchuk, Grischuk versus Mamedyarov, Nakamura- Gelfand and Hao against Topalov.

The standings after three rounds are: Gelfand, Leko and Mamedyarov (2 points), Grischuk, Leinier, Topalov, Adams, Hao and Nakamura (1.5), Ivanchuk, Kasimdzhanov and Giri (1).
