To the beat of a cheerful flag-raising ceremony, Cuba and Ecuador hoisted their national flags today at the Olympic Village for the London Games-2012, a few hours before the opening of the games.

"We are physically fit and prepared and work on every detail including the athlete's psychological readiness and concentration," said Christian Jimenez, president of the Cuban Institute of Sports and Recreation in Cuba (INDER).

Jimenez emphasized that the conditions at the athlete's village are excellent, as well as the classification system to better determine athletic potential and instill confidence in order to achieve outstanding performances.

A party atmosphere including the iconic Bicycle Race and Queen's "We are the Champions" by the late Freddie Mercury, gave a human touch to the colorful spectacle produced by a British theater company.

"We are happy to participate in the XXX Summer Olympics and eager to achieve great performances with the largest delegation in Ecuador's history," said Tony Montoya, press director for the team.

Alberto Juantorena, Vice President of INDER and double Olympic champion at Montreal-76 in the 400 and 800 meter dash, said the moment of truth is approaching. "Now it's time to give it our all," he added.
