Cuba has 7,802,877 people of working age, around the 53 percent of whom are men, according to population data released today by the National Bureau of Statistics and Information (ONEI).

  According to the study published at the ONEI website, more than five million working age Cubans (from 17 years to 60 for women, and 65 for men) live in urban areas, while 1,975,000 live in rural areas.

In respect to those in Cuba who are older than working age, the number exceeds 2,236,000, almost 60 percent women.

ONEI's report reflects that the 2,208,418 Cubans are in the pre-employment range, more than half of whom are male.

According to studies, the total population of Cuba on Dec 31, 2011 was 11, 247,925 people, very similarly distributed between men and women.

ONEI also reports that the most populous age group corresponds to 40-49 years, with more than two million Cubans.
