President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko went on an official visit to Cuba, Venezuela and Ecuador. According to the press service of the State, the development of trade and economic relations, political dialogue, as well as other promising areas of cooperation with the countries of the Latin American region will be on the focus of the attention of the Belarusian president during the visit.

Belarus is most actively cooperating with Venezuela. The trade turnover between the two countries has increased in more than 200 times for five years ($6 million in 2006 and $1.3 billion in 2011), informed the press service of the President, BelTA.

The countries cooperate in various fields: oil and gas, petrochemical industry, power and gas supply, agriculture, industry, science, technology, education and culture.

With participation of Belarus there have been created MAZ trucks assembly enterprises, as well as plants to produce construction materials. The countries jointly implement a number of other projects.

Interaction between Belarus and Cuba embraces the scientific sphere, biotechnology, supply of agricultural products and other machinery.

As for Ecuador, projects on joint ventures, export of Belarusian goods and services are considered to be promising.

As Telegraf previously reported, in early June, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced about the possible visit of Alexander Lukashenko to Venezuela on June 26. During a meeting with Vladimir Semashko on May 30 - June 1, Hugo Chavez praised the policy of the president of Belarus and said that Alexander Lukashenko had "managed to build his own model after the collapse of the Soviet unfortunate project."

Back in February, ambassador to Venezuela Americo Diaz Nunez reported that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko planned to visit Venezuela, but was unable to call the exact date.

In 2011, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez canceled his traditional visit to Belarus due to his illness. According to American journalist Dan Rasers, citing a senior anonymous source, Hugo Chavez’s cancer had entered its critical stage.
