A quake rattled Chile with series of earth tremors

Santiago, Chile, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) The quake today was registered at 07:55 local time, with epicentre 116 km deep, some 50 km southern Putre community, in the Arica Parinacota region, in the country's northern tip, reported the Seismology Service of the University of Chile. A 4.2-magnitude quake rocked on Sunday northern Chile, in the wake of a series of tremors that have been shaking the country for two weeks.

 There was no victim or damage, according to the National Emergency Office.

Experts consider that a seism over eight degrees of magnitude may occur at any time in any region of Chile, but they point to the north as the most-prone area as they say energy has been accumulating there for a longer period.
