John Lennon's music recalled in Havana

granma.co.cu . 9 de Octubre 2011.For some time now, it has become usual that during the month of October Cuban artists, closely related to the mythical work of The Beatles, pay tribute to the iconic member of the Four Fantastic, John Lennon.

This year, a group of Cuban rock and roll bands, which have kept alive the Beatle’s mania throughout history, will pay tribute to Lennon on his 71st anniversary at Havana’s Submarino Amarillo (Yellow Submarine) Cultural Center, located on 17 and 6, Plaza de la Revolución.

Although Lennon’s birthday is not until Sunday, October 9, activities to pay tribute to this essential figure of the culture and society of the 20th century began on Tuesday with a concert by the legendary Cuban band Los Kents.

Other concerts programmed include the bands Gens (on Wednesday, October 5), Magical Beat (Thurday, October 6), Los Gafas (Friday, October 7), Partes Privadas (Saturday, October 8) and Dimensión Vertical (Sunday, October 9). All concerts will take place from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Also on Sunday at 2:00 p.m., Guille Vilar and Ernesto Juan Castellanos, fans and promoters of The Beatle’s work, will give lectures on John Lennon’s transcendence and the impact of Cuban music on The Beatles.
