CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Oct 7 (acn)The American delegation met with members of the Cuban National Association of Jurists in the province in order to expand their knowledge on the legal system of the Caribbean island. The delegation made up of American students and teachers on criminal justice of the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) in the U.S. are visiting the central Cuban province of Cienfuegos to exchange with their peers and counterparts.

Professor Chuck Fields told ACN on Thursday that they will visit several Cuban provinces to get to know the Cuban reality, the history of the Revolution and to exchange with jurists on Cuba’s legal system.

Fields noted that the students, most of them visiting the Caribbean island for the first time, are interested on general and penitentiary justice and on environmental laws.

The American delegation met with members of the Cuban National Association of Jurists in the province in order to expand their knowledge on the legal system of the Caribbean island.

During the meeting they dealt with topics such as prisoners’ rights, flexibility of the penal code and the selection of judges.

In Cienfuegos they visited the venue of the Municipal Assembly of the People’s Power where they received information on the method of administration applied in the country.

A student on criminal justice, Steven Chapman, affirmed that during his stay in Cuba he was able to compare both penal systems and strengthen his friendship bonds with the Cuban people.

During their stay in Cuba they will also visit historical places in Havana, Sancti Spiritus, Matanzas, Villa Clara, and Pinar del Rio provinces.
