HAVANA, CUBA --By Veronica Cintron, Anchor. Tuesday, October 4, 2011.Inside the music classroom in Cuba.Light and music filled the rooms at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory in Havana, Cuba where more than 300 students study music for free. It’s an experience like no other.

Last week, they had a chance to learn from a new set of teachers. The Florida Orchestra's Wind Quintet taught master classes there as part of a cultural exchange.

Each musician had a room and a translator to help explain what body language couldn't. “It feels great having this experience, learning from them. You don't get this every day,” said Alberto, a music student.

The talented teens prepared with exercises, practiced their newly learned techniques and performed for their visiting instructors.

There was no shortage of talent or fans in the classrooms, but the stifling heat never got in the way of learning.

Repairing or buying instruments and accessories can be a struggle for the conservatory.

They depend on donations to keep these students going.

The Florida Orchestra answered the call for help, sharing Tampa Bay's generosity, by bringing musical accessories donated this summer. Bay News 9 was the only local station on that trip.
