2011/10/04.By Luis Chirino. Granma daily has released Cuba's statements about the news aired on a Hezbollah base in its national territory and rejected accusations made by US presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann that the island is serving as a base for the Hezbollah Lebanese movement.

“A combination of the electoral campaign and visceral hatred against revolutionary movements and countries turns US presidential candidates like extreme-right and Tea Party Rep. Michele Bachmann into real parrots that use lies as arguments,” the paper explained.

The newspaper says that Bachmann adopted a version on the alleged “sophisticated” Hezbollah base in Cuba, which was published by an Italian daily, an issue that seems to be taken from the most groundless fiction stories.

But, “given her poor acceptance revealed by surveys, Bachmann has desperately thrashed around by predicting a new missile crisis, this time staged—according to Bachmann—by Hezbollah on the Cuban scenario.”

Granma daily says that the article in the Italian paper referred to an alleged presence of Hezbollah representatives in Cuba, but it did not talk about missiles. “Bachmann took the missiles out of a Cold War box and replaced those of (former premier Nikita) Krushov with the Lebanese ones of Hezbollah,” the paper pointed out.

“We must remember that Ms. Bachmann knows very well about the benefit she can receive from the Miami Cuban American vote,” Granma said and recalled that the presidential candidate “slashed out against any kind of changes in Washington's hostile Cuba policy” in recent debates.
