Havana, Cuba.-Jameson was the beverage chosen this time for a practice session of cocktail preparation and an expert-guided tasting in which the Irish whiskey was compared with Scotch Johnnie Walter Red Label. Havana Club International has already offered training sessions on cocktails with white rums, and on all Havana Club rums.

Created in November of 1993, Havana Club International S.A. is a joint venture between Cuba Ron S.A. and French group Pernod Ricard, responsible for the development and international distribution of the Havana Club rum, and other international brands. The company is looking to increase the quality of the Cuban tourism product by offering updating courses to sommeliers, maitres and barmen.

The company’s sales assistant manager, Carlos Guasch, told ACN the courses include practice sessions and lectures, and they are part of a strategy to stregthen the professional background of those who handle the products commercialized by the firm and work directly with visitors.

In an effort to promote other products included in the company’s portfolio, a workshop on the Irish whiskey Jameson is currently taking place.

Fernando Fernandez Milian, principal professor of the Cuban sommelier program said Havana Club International’s actions are quite innovative as they mix theory with practice and provide a high level of training.

Fernandez Milian highlighted the importance of turning the wheel to the work with the staff in the services, as by increasing the professionalism, the art of recommendation also increases, which translates in greater satisfaction on the part of costumers. (ACN)
