By: Osmany González Tocabens. Mexico City, Sep 26 (Prensa Latina) The Pan-American Games will welcome more than 5.000 athletes of 42 regional countries, and will be inaugurated on Oct. 14 at the new Chivas soccer club stadium of Guadalajara.

A force of 1.500 federal officers arrived in Guadalajara to strengthen security while holding the upcoming Pan-American Games, the Secretariat of Public Safety (SSP) reported on Monday.

The new contingent joins other 500 police officers permanently deployed, since two months ago, in sport complexes and facilities for overnight stay, training, and competition.

According to the SSP, the deployment responds to coordinating actions by the federal government and local authorities that will be carried out during the regional sports event.

The police officers belong to groups such as the Immediate Alert and Reaction, Special Operations, and Rescue Unit and Social Assistance.
