By: Raquel Maria Garcia Alvarez. Mexico, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) Five states of the Pacific coast remain on alert as Category 4 Hurricane Hilary nears, according to the National Civil Defense System.

The hurricane is not forecast to make landfall, but Mexico's coast in Guerrero, Michoacan, Oaxaca, Colima and Jalisco has been being affected by wind, rain and heavy surf from Hilary.

According to the Tropical Cyclon Early Warning System, this system will maintain its current category, as it moves west towards warm waters in the Pacific Ocean.

At least 70-150 mm of rain is expected to be brought by Hilary in northwestern Guerrero and northeastern Michoacan, as well as 50-70 mm in Colima.

According to the National Meteorology Service, Hilary was centered Friday about 135 miles (215 km) south of Lazaro Cardenas, and was moving west near 15 kph with sustained winds of 230 kph and gusts of wind of 275 kph.

The Civil Defense System advised the people to remain on alert and follow closely the evolution of this phenomenon, mainly in coastal areas, and take precautionary steps due to the likelihood of heavy rain.
