By: Indira Román. 24 de Septiembre 2011. Classics from the world of theatre, as well as contemporary works will be staged at Havana’s International Theatre Festival, scheduled for October 28th through November 6th.

Some 20 theatre companies from Latin America and Europe will show the current trends in the world of theatre, including avant-garde proposals. Argentina, Germany, Spain, Ecuador, Slovenia, Finland, France, Greece, Holland, Mexico, Cyprus, Turkey and the United Kingdom are among the nations that will participate in this year’s Havana festival.

The festival president Bárbara Rivero said that the 14th edition of the theatre festival will serve as a space to promote theatre as resistance art, an art form that advocates greater exchange among human beings, the peaceful coexistence of nations, the preservation of ecosystems and policies that serve everyone’s interests.

The festival will include prize-winning stage productions, as well as some world and Cuban premiers by prestigious Cuban theatre companies, among them Pequeño Teatro de La Habana, Teatro de La Luna, Mefisto Teatro, Hubert de Blanck.

Hubert de Blanck will stage the play ‘La legionaria’ (The Legionary), starring Pancho García.

The festival’s program also includes children’s theatre and street theatre performances.

Other attractions include an exhibition on the portrayal of characters and the wardrobe at the Raúl Oliva gallery and a space to discuss several topics of interest, among them women’s role in theatre.
