English.news.cn. HAVANA, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Cuba is designing a training course to teach private workers "economic management" to better educate the workers for their jobs.

The course, designed by the National Association of Economists (ANEC), aims to teach an increasing number of private workers to "expand their knowledge in basic accounting, expenses, costs and taxes," ANEC Vice President Maria Victoria Berrace said Thursday.

The course will "contribute to the development and better performance" of the self-employed workers on the island," Berrace said, adding private workers must "have a better understanding of the laws, be capable of contributing to the state budget with what is set, and at the same time be capable to achieving profits."

She noted that the course "takes into account the needs of the private sector, comprised by over 333,000 Cubans, which keeps growing since the Council of Ministers authorized last April the expansion of privatization to up to 181 activities.

Cuba has announced a package of economic reforms to revive the island's impoverished economy. But recent surveys showed that "private workers face a number of major difficulties in issues such as paying taxes." Editor: Chen Zhi
