2011.09.20 - 11:50:26 / radiorebelde.icrt.cu.HAVANA, Cuba.- Omara Portuondo and Adalberto Alvarez gave a press conference in Havana after receiving the news of their nominations for the 2011 Latin Grammy Awards, to be announced on November 10th in Las Vegas, United States.

Both singers said that though it would be great for them to win the award, the goal is to satisfy their fans with their works, and that the Cuban culture spreads throughout the world.

Omara was nominated with her latest release "Reír y cantar” (Laugh and Sing) in the Best Latin Music for Children Category, while Adalberto did it with his “El son de altura” (Top son) in the Best Traditional Tropical Music, both produced by Bis Music record label.

“I am happy no matter what happens. For us it is an important prize for its projection in the international market. It is well known how many hurdles a Cuban artist needs to go over in the market; if we don’t win more awards, it’s precisely because of that, because we have many good musicians. We have in abundance is talent” said Adalberto

This is his first nomination to the Grammys which makes him very happy, he said, and recalled other awards he has won like the Cuban National Prize of Music.

On her part, Omara has won two Latin Grammys: in 1997 she was part of the “Buena Vista Social Club” disc and in 2009 with “Gracias” (Thanks). She received a nomination in 2001 for “Buena Vista Social Club presenta a Omara Portuondo”

Speaking of this new work, Omara said she had enjoyed making it because she had the chance of singing songs by Enriqueta Alamnza, whom she worked, and other songs she listened to and sang as a child. The discs success resides in the fact it brings together many sensitivities. she added.

“I love kids very much, because as Marti (Cuban National Hero) said, they are the hope of the world”

Bis Music manager Ela Ramos thanked both artists for having chosen the Cuban label, and recalled Bis Music won a Latin Grammy with La rumba soy yo, produced by Cary Diez and Joaquín Betancourt.(ACN)
