By: Estela McCollin. Mexico City, Sep 9 (Prensa Latina) Various states of alert have been declared in the Gulf states of Campeche, Yucatan, Tabasco and Veracruz for Tropical Storm Nate, expected to become a hurricane in the coming hours.

The National Civil Protection System forecast torrential rain for Tabasco and Campeche, heavy rain for Veracruz and Yucatan and showers for Quintana Roo, and it has been raining for days in some areas and coastal areas have seen waves up to four meters high.

Specialists predicted two possible routes for Nate: one heading north or north-northwest toward Tamaulipas, or a shift to the northern coast or central Veracruz.

Central Mexico has seen heavy rains for days, especially in Cuahutitlan Izcalli, in the State of Mexico, where the floodwaters up to 1.5 meters have caused damage.
